34mi

At last the Pterovélo is back together again. It has been in the garage now for 4 weeks. There were a couple of small upgrades that I wanted to get done before Roll Over America. I did not expect that it would take me that long to get them all done and the weeks without cycling made me a little nervous. I worried about the fitness but also the temp went up quite a bit since I last been in side the velo. All proofed to be ok today. I only went 34mi but it felt all good. The temp was 104°F and although it was hot, it was not a problem at all. Personally I think that it is much more comfortable in the velo at that heat than on a regular bicycle. First off all you are in the shade most of the time. Secondly, I could control the amount of air that flows over my body for cooling and don't get blown by a 30+mph hot wind that sucks away all your sweat and leaves you dry and hot.
I had the Big Apples on all three wheels today and enjoyed the soft ride a lot.

The gps missed the loop that went around lake Hefner today.( forgot to turn it on)

60mi / 96.5km

Sunday morning and left for Hutchinson. The wind was very strong SSE at 25mph which helped a lot. The lift over the velo lifted the door so I had to stop to put extra bungy cords on the door. In the process I got a flat tire in the back and had to stop a second time to change tubes. Still made very good time. I did get a little hot inside with the strong tail wind but I kept the door closed as long as I could. Only opened it when I turned of at Yoder to go North.
This is the best avg to date. Almost the whole trip was uphill but with a tail wind.

Monday morning we loaded the velo on the trailer for the first time and head home in a 30-40mph head wind. The trailer did very well and pulled easy. I do need to change the wheels though and repack the bearings. But still we got a 35mpg avg all the way into that strong wind.

19.1mi / 30.7km

I met up with Jim Aiken in Wichita this afternoon. He owns a Flevo AW. It is the first velo that I lay my eyes on and what a treat. We went for a little joy ride enjoying the scenery. The suspension on the AW is very impressive and seems to make quite a difference.

69.8mi / 112.3km

Off to a bad start this morning. The battery wires came loose and I lost all lights. I cycled to the next town and found an open auto-body shop that helped me repair the broken wires.

687 South Main Street, Blackwell Oklahoma.
I don't remember the Shops name but thank you so much for the help.
The rest of the day went pretty good. Kept a good pace and felt good. I had a little cross headwind the whole day.

68.7mi / 110.6km

Left work this afternoon and did a good stretch up to Tonkawa OK where I camped. It was a very nice road with a section that winds along the river. Just before I reached Tonkawa I met up with a cyclist and was trying to speak to him while cycling and in the process broke the door stop in the back off. Not a to big deal. The door just rubs a little on the frame without it. Solved the problem with a couple of plies of poly tape around the door area. Will have to invent  a much better solution.

Got to the campground after 21:00 and rigged a quick tent with a space blanket.

34.1mi / 54.8km

I packed the velo and is off for a x-country trip today. The goal is to go to Hutchinson KS to visit the parents. Will camp along the road one night and will sleep over at grandma in Wichita KS.

Went to Hinton and back today. My knees gave a bit of trouble, so I took it real easy. It was 90F outside and a strong SW was blowing.

49.3mi / 79.3km

There was severe thunder storms just before I left work today. Lots of rain. I waited till the worst was over but I still had rain almost all the way back home. It was no problem at all. Technically I staid bone dry inside, but there was enough sweat going around. There was a pretty strong SE wind all the way.

34.0mi / 54.7km

Last night I swapped chain rings. The 73t and 54t is now in front.

57.9mi / 93.2km

Had a 20mph head wind coming home. I still made good time though. For some reason the gps made two mistakes. Lap 9 and 12 is way off.

33.9mi / 54.6km

It was hard to get up this morning. So I decided to take it very easy. I kept my heart rate just high enough not to fall back asleep. Lucky for me there was a good tail wind and I made it to work in very good time.
